Weirdness

Yesterday i stuck the Stone Roses "Second Coming" CD into my PC to give it a bit of a play. When CD's load on Winamp it scans the internet or something so it can recognise all the tracks...so it did that as usual, but it ended up giving me around 100 tracks, 85 of which were named like "Stone Roses - Unknown". The first 15 or so tracks were all the usual ones on the CD, but there was more weirdness. Around track 94, there was "Stone Roses - Fozz" which was a totally weird wall of feedback and cool sounds. It's definately is a hidden track, because it's not listed on the CD.

Has anyone else come across hidden tracks or weirdness with CD's?? I know of a few..there's a David Gray album where if you whizz backwards at the start of track 1 it goes into a hidden track before track 1 which is pretty cool. I also know you can get interesting and freaky results if you backplay the Stairway to Heaven vinyl....

Get to Bed!!/Caution to Wind!!

All that lack of sleep has built up again, to a pretty large extent. It normally hits mid morning to early afternoon. Now, i probably have said many times that i was nearly asleep in class, but by that i mean i was just not clued in and just sitting there not doing much. Today i was asleep in class. Twice. I was out of it for about 10 minutes during maths, then for about another 5 in geography (til my blonde Russian friend smacked me over the head). That's the first time i've ever been properly asleep in school. It's an achievement i rekon.Anyways, i've thrown "caution to the wind" and am enquiring about free spaces. Small chance there'll actually be any, but if i don't (which i probs won't) get on, i can say "ah well, i tried" look up and get on with my life til i finish exams and start what hopes to be a rockin' summer. Hopefully you've all guessed what i'm on about by now.

Dancing in the Moonlight

That song is pure class. The Thin Lizzy one may i add. Not Toploader, who i'll point out released that song then vanished into thin air. Probably because they got filthy rich off that track. You know, music's one of the few things that keeps me going at times...

'Zee Zee'

From time to time there is a band or artist who i've known about, but suddenly listened to feverishly. This time it's ZZ Top.

For the uneducated that's the three guys from Texas, two of whom have what could easily be labelled as the most kick ass beards on the planet. They also are obsessed with some big cool red hotrod. Oh yea, they also play some kick ass music. One reviewer on Amazon described them as 'Texan Gold', and he is totally right. If i could drive, i'd shove one of their CD's into the player and go cruisin'. Then i'd do it again. And again. Until then i'll just i'll just air guitar to them here.

Blizzardness Part 2.

Took an hour to get to school yesterday, so i missed the huge snowball fight in the blizzard. It was quite funny watching people in their totally huge BMW and Mercs practically slipping down the Malone road, as it was just ice. Even though those cars look like offroaders, they ain't. They are too damn big, take up too much space, look stupid in Europe, and guzzle fuel at 80p a litre like it drops from the sky. It might be ok in America where i hear fuel is dirt cheap, but even there they'd still look stupid. Buy a big pickup instead. Talking about America, i know i'd like to go there for a month, but it could be unlikely. I still have time. But the thing is, after rakeing my brains like nuts for the last few days, i've come to know that it won't be that bad if i don't go; i may still be able to get to Arizona/or go to yankeeland for a holiday anyways, and that would seem to make me happy enough. Whatever the hell i end up doing this summer i'd just like it to rock.

Blizzardness

Well, nearly both compositions done, that means i can do whatever i like in music for the next ages. Not like it'll be that different to normal anyways. That subject rules. I'll be returning to Limerick on the 4th-6th Feb, so if anyone wants me to pop a "hello call" into what became our house then i'll happily try and do so. We're in Jury's Inn, just round the corner, being spoilt with a swimming pool & gym and all. Now i just have to make that decision! I'll make it eventually! Now, since i don't want to trudge through a blizzard tomorrow morning at 0600 hours i have decided to go to bed early for once and not go swimming, so i can get plenty of sleep.....

Storm Chasers

I've been outside, picking up stuff that might get blown to America in this wind. It's pretty windy up here, i'm waiting to see if anything outside my window starts flying, and waiting for the house to plunge into darkness, even if i don't have a torch handy. Ah well, i could take bets that my power will be off. It'd probably be wise to batton down the hatches now, except i'm most likely heading to water polo in the big massive low pressure weather system outside.

That reminds me of a programme i watched a few weeks ago, about Americans chasing tornados for a holiday. They chugged about in a minibus round all the flat fields, like Iowa or somewhere, for a week, getting out every so often with their hi-tech cams and making total American comments at the big scary column of wind before them, twisting at something like 500mph. Quite a few of those people across the pond fit into their stereotype perfectly. Not that i'm complaing. I see why they do it. It's crazy, but pretty interesting, and most of the time seems to be pretty adrenalising, because it really is a big scary storm thing that could suck you in and spit you out before you can even run for it. Cheap way of getting thrills, yea. It could be a career.

Here's a big bad pic to wet ppl's appetites...

Solo!!!........Where's it gone??

Download the song "Let's get rocked" by Def Leppard. Actually, don't, because it pisses me off because of the blink-and-you'll-miss-it geetar solo. Let's see, they spend about 3 1/2 minutes singing about how they're gonna get "rocked", then manage to come out with an immense backing riff, accompanied by an ecstacising solo...which lasts for the best part of 10 seconds. I was totally loving it the first time i heard it, until i realised 10 seconds later that they had ditched the solo and gone back to singing about they were going to get rocked again, just cranked up a key. Why??!? They fine well could have extended that solo to make it ultimate kick-assness, but they didn't. I rekon it's something to do with their "stadium-rockness". Sorry if you don't really have a clue what i'm on about.

Anyways, i might be returning to Limerick early...the roof got blown off the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin by the wind, so now the Irish secondary school's can't be held there. It's been rumoured Belfast, Dublin and Limerick. I have some pavlova to eat now.

.................

I've been exercising quite a bit today. Around 2 1/2 hours of pretty constant drumming during open day, then on to the Ulster Secondary School's swimming. I always enjoy these galas for some reason. Winning intermediate 100m freestyle was good, but what surprised me was my time of 56.95. I was pretty surprised seeing that one on the board. In July, i did a 57.1 in a relay (relays are always faster) before taking off to Limerick, so i don't really know how i managed to pull that one off. Probably what i like about these galas is the decent spirits between teams. You may be surprised, but the Inst and Methody teams get on very well at these things. The people from 5th year and up in their team are all decently sound, and they didn't even take it badly when we beat them in the relays. That's cool, i like it.

Anyways, what's been the deal with the weather lately? If you haven't realised, in the last 24 hours, 175mm of rain has fallen in places, winds have reached up to 130mph gusts in the Scottish Highlands and up to 100mph gusts in the Irish Sea, 100 flood warnings have been put in place (some severe), Cardiff has seen the worst flooding for 30 years, snow has fallen in places, thousands of houses have had power cuts, trees have been uprooted, lorries have been overturned & a P&O ferry has ran aground in Cairnryan. Meanwhile, in the US, ice has brought down power lines in Ohio, New England is snowed in, Southern Indiana is flooded, and people in Chicago have been dodging falling icicles (except that isn't as bad as it sounds, because it's just the snow is thawing there). Anyways, that's all crazy!

More things we learn from the movies...

  • The air vents of any building is the perfect hiding place. You can crawl around to any part of the building, and there is no way anyone is going to look for you in there.
  • When paying a Taxi driver, you can just take any note out of your wallet and give it to him without looking. It will always be the right amount.
  • Parking outside the place you are visiting is not a problem
  • When driving down a straight road, it is necessary to turn the wheel vigorously from side to side a few times
  • Grocery bags contain at least one stick of french bread
  • A decent accent is all that is necessary to pass off as a German, you don't need to know the language
  • Chainsaws are always available nearby
  • Movie stars never need to use the bathroom
  • Any computer is adequate to hack into any government system
  • Diffusing bombs is a piece of cake, as you will always cut the correct wire
  • The pizza guy never needs to know your address
