Ah crap, that's Irish Schools swimming over. Back in the day i thought i'd be happy at that prospect, but it's actually a rather sobering thought.
So yesterday i ended up at the Grove for some more swimming. It sucks that my last Irish schools trip had to be in Belfast, as i was all up for Cork or somewhere like that. The thing that struck me this year was that they piled though it all at an incredible speed. My individuals were done by 12.30pm (in Limerick 2 years ago i was still waiting to swim my final at 6.30pm), and the whole thing was done by 3.30.
Anyways, in a nutshell i unexpectedly came bloody close to qualifying for that good old Irish Schools team again for the Home Internationals in March. Ended up in the 100 freestyle final, and from what i gather it was a close one. Close like the 6 of us (who all know each other) were pretty much in a line side by side for the entire race. In the end there was something like 0.8 between first and last, and i came got beaten into 5th by 0.06 seconds. Had i come 4th, id have made the team! But anyways, i think the date they were going on would've clashed with our all day concert rehearsal. It is ironic though, that while i should be pleased that i unexpectedly came so close to getting on it again, i am a bit disappointed at the same time.
But anyways, we altered our senior relay team a bit and took our 'rivals' Bangor grammar to the cleaners, winning the irish title for both relays again, so i'm not complaining.
So, if i was still going by my plans from 18 months ago, i would now be entering my last 3 months of competitive swimming. However, i think my plans have changed, as i dont really have any intention of giving it up anytime soon. I still seem to be motivated and it's still fun, and may that continue. Roll on Bath Cup 2007.
